Live and Learn Enrichment Programs
From Community Bridge and Hopewell Academy

Make the most out of your child's out-of-school time!

Hopewell Academy and Community Bridge have teamed up to bring you the best in academic enrichment programs. This program makes learning fun and keeps your child's mind active and engaged. Community Bridge Camps are geared for children in Grades 1 to 8. Students may be dropped off as early as 8:15 and remain through 5:30 pm. All of these camps are open to the general public.

This is a one of a kind summer writing institute designed to boost interest and confidence in writing by engaging children in hands-on, literacy based, and culturally relevant activities, while increasing their desire to become creative critical writers and thinkers. Our curriculum is aligned with the NC Standard Course of Study, and designed to enhance children's preparation for EOG reading and writing goals.

2009 Units include
Poetry, Young Authors & Illustrators,
Public Speaking, Career Exploration, and Journalism!"

Unit 1,
Journalism: "You've Been Scooped!"

Children will learn the basics of journalism, create a class newspaper, conduct and write up an interview of a local "Community Hero," and visit local newspaper facilities to gain a greater appreciation of the literary process.

Unit 2,
Young Authors & Illustrators: "Put It In a Book!"

Children will be taught the components of story building and will be guided through the process of conceptualizing, writing, and illustrating their own book. **

Unit 3,
Poetry: "You're a Poet...Did you know it?"

Children will explore and create poetry forms, including free verse, limericks, Haiku, cinquains, acrostics, and others.

Unit 4,
Public Speaking & Debate: "Speak Up, Speak Out"

Children will improve their organizational, writing, and verbal skills, while at the same time learning the finer points of public speaking and etiquette.
