Hopewell Academy English/Language Arts

Hopewell Academy follows North Carolina Standards for English classes. Students who either excel at or need support with aspects of English language skills are offered options, support, and acceleration throughout their program of study. All of Hopewell Academy's English courses work to develop well-rounded individuals with advanced proficiency in all aspects of the English language--including reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills while also improving overall vocabulary knowledge and skills.

Middle School Courses

Middle School Language Arts courses feature strong writing, critical thinking, reading comprehension, and listening components with additional emphasis on vocabulary building, speaking, and daily homework plus oral and study skills. Students also complete a variety of activities, projects, and presentations.  The goal is to develop a well-rounded, dimensional English background which each student will use in his or her high school academics.

High School Courses

All of the high school English courses are combined extensive composition and literature survey courses which build and expand on previously learned skills and knowledge.  The content also stresses vocabulary building, listening, comprehension, critical thinking, speaking, and daily homework, plus organization and study.  The goal is to prepare students for their future paths, including the rigors of college and university work.
