Cecilia Gabriel Founder and President Ms. Gabriel manages the administrative, financial, admissions, and regulatory affairs of the Academy as Head of School. Ms. Gabriel has lived and worked in the Triangle area for more than 30 years. In her previous career, she managed and directed departments of major dot-com companies with a focus on emerging technology in networking, hardware and software. She serves on the boards of directors of several area nonprofits. In 2010 she completed the role of interim Executive Director of Arts Together of Raleigh NC, guiding their board and arts organization through a period of transition concluding with the appointment of a new permanent executive director. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor of arts in psychology and lives in Cary with her husband Charles, their son Alex, and cat Zelda. Their nephew John is currently living in Charlotte, following his 2009 graduation from Virginia Military Institute. She is passionate about providing the best possible educational environment for students and teachers to learn together. In her spare time she loves to cook and always enjoys a bite of dark chocolate!
Kelly Wiebe and Chewy
Kelly Wiebe, LPC, LMFT (North Carolina and Missouri) Interim Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Student and Family Services
Kelly Wiebe has a degree from University of Missouri and a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in North Carolina and Missouri. She has more than 10 years of experience as a Counselor and School Counselor with specific expertise in adolescent and family intervention, positive behavior support, student assessments, IEP planning, character education, and group and individual counseling practices for children and adults. She lives with her family in Apex. Together with her family and the High School Psychology Class, we are all raising Chewbacca their Golden Retriever to be a certified therapy dog.
Ricky Andrew Media and 21st Century Technology, Spanish
Mr. Andrew has a bachelor's degree in Leadership and Spanish and a M.B.A in Business Administration. He has worked in Peace Corps in Honduras and Nicaragua, taught in Palm Beach County schools in Florida, and served as an international teacher in Taipei, Taiwan. He speaks several languages and in certified in several states. Mr. Andrew has extensive experience in international student admissions and global student recruiting as well. He spends his summers teaching in China. Mr. Andrew joined Hopewell in 2012.
Ms. Chiang has a Master's in Linguistics and TESL from Indiana State University and a Bachelor's in Chinese Literature from Feng Chia University in Taiwan. She has years of teaching experience in languages in the Triangle and across the US and the world. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, English, Taiwanese and basic Japanese. She has even taught Mandarin in an American Indian charter school. Sunny joined Hopewell a few years ago as a family host for our Summer Chinese program. Her talents and skills working with students was just what we needed when we began to enroll international students. For those that needed a bit extra upon arrival, Sunny meets with the student to build confidence and language skills and help with the social adjustments of moving to America.
Karen Daley Social Sciences, Art
Karen Daley teaches Social Sciences, a variety of electives and Art. She has a degree from Santa Clara University and Secondary Education Teaching credentials in Social Sciences from both Oregon and California. She has experience in project based curriculum for Social Studies and Language Arts. In Art she developed a home school curriculum for Art for grades K-9. She has experience in implementing age appropriate art projects emphasizing hand-eye coordination and individual creativity. In her spare time she uses her passion to create wall sized murals throughout our community and write for a local magazine. She and her family live here in Cary and she joined Hopewell in 2012.
Rebecca Flock Middle Grades Science Teacher, High School Biology and Earth Science Teacher
Ms. Flock has a degree in Social Sciences from Washington State University with North Carolina teaching certifications in High School and Middle School Sciences, Exceptional Children, and Special Education. She has taught Middle and High School Sciences and Mathematics for over 12 years in area public and private schools. At her schools, she pioneered clubs such as Science Olympiad, Forensics, Psychology and Science Fair. She uses inquiry based learning and projects for strong student centered learning. She joined Hopewell in 2013 and in her spare time raises 4 children, a bearded dragon, and plays competitive volleyball year round. The bearded dragon, Murtog, visits often to delight the science students.
Aaron Francher High School English and Social Studies, International Student Liaison and ESL Teacher
Mr. Francher received his undergraduate and master's degrees from the University of Arizona. He has a B.A. in English and a M.Ed. in Teaching and Teacher Education. He is certified to teach in Arizona and North Carolina. He has five years experience a Taekwondo instructor in his hometown of Yuma, Arizona and taught Language Arts in Tucson, Arizona. In his spare time he enjoys cooking, reading, writing poetry, and woodworking. He recently moved to Raleigh, North Carolina with his newly-wed wife, Taylor, and their Chihuahua Tinkerbell.
David Gaines Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher
Mr. Gaines has a bachelor's degree in Psychology from University of Kansas and a Master's degree in Education from Naropa University in Colorado. He has teacher licensure from California. He has taught at all levels from college to Grade 5 and loves teaching Middle School students. He has specific expertise in curriculum mapping and teaching writing and grammar. He was recognized with the Governor's Award for Academic Excellence in Kansas. Early in his career he served in the Peace Corps in Sri Lanka. Since then he has lived and taught in Kansas, Colorado, California, and now North Carolina. He recently relocated to the Triangle and is planning his upcoming wedding.
Phyllis Morris Middle Grades Lanugage Arts Teacher, Reading Specialist
Ms. Morris received her her M.S. Ed. in Reading and Adult Education from North Carolina State University, a B.S. in English and Secondary Education from Oglethorpe University and is certified in English (K-12), Reading (K-12), Title 1 Reading and Resource Writing, and Reading Recovery. Ms. Morris began working at Hopewell years ago and has retired not just once but twice. She returns again in 2013 to help in the front office and offer organizational skills development to middle and high school students.
Nicholas Shosho Language Arts and Mathematics Teacher

Mr. Shosho has an undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Elementary Science Education, a master's degree in School Administration from North Carolina Central University and is currently enrolled in a doctoral degree program in Educational Administration at North Carolina State University. Previously he was assistant principal at Brier Creek Elementary and East Cary Middle and Sixth Grade Math Teacher at Moore Square Middle and Reedy Creek. He also served as Second, Fourth and Fifth Grade Teachers at Reedy Creek. He is cross certified in numerous areas. Mr. Shosho has been at Hopewell since 2011 and has served in the role of Academic Dean from 2012-2014. He and his family live in Apex.
David Traini Middle School Math and Science Instructor High School Math and Science Instructor
Mr. Traini is a graduate of Glassboro State College with a master's degree in educational administration and Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. He received his teaching certificates in science and physical science from Rutgers University. Before joining Hopewell, Mr. Traini was the assistant principal at a high school in New Jersey for 15 years. Impressively, Mr. Traini is a 14-time competitor on the game show Jeopardy. He is well known as a trivia expert. Mr. Traini has been with Hopewell since 2009. He regularly teaches summer sessions for students getting ahead by taking Calculus or Pre-Calculus. Mr. Traini joined Hopewell in 2009 and lives with his family in Cary.
Maria Young Middle Grades Mathematics and Science Teacher, Middle Grades Physical Education Teacher
Ms. Young received a degree in Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University has a Certificate in Applied Sciences Teacher License from Virginia. She has Virginia Licensure in Middle Education Sciences (Gr 6-8) and Visual Arts (PreK-12). She has taught for years in Henrico and Fairfax Virginia School Districts before relocating to Cary recently. She maintains momentum in the classroom by modeling enthusiasm, engaging students, and creating a positive and inquisitive learning environment. She joined Hopewell in 2013 and lives in Cary with her family.
